The Mall Preston is back on the look out for the shops of the future

This year, in an unprecedented move, The Mall’s 19 centres are not the only ones looking for the next big thing in retail, as the UK’s leading operator of community shopping centres teams up with other major national landlords including Capital Shopping Centres to extend the competition to 34 UK shopping centres.

Seeking entrants with a unique retail concept, the competition offers regional winners the chance to trade in leading shopping centres such as The Mall Preston. Then on the basis of their success over two weeks, one national winner is awarded a start-up package that includes six months rent-free trade, allowing them to get their business off the ground with virtually no outgoings.

Last year’s winners, Terry and Janis Loran, from Toddington noticed a gap in the market for personalised merchandise for special occasions. Aged 59, Terry was made redundant and decided to enter and set up “Initially Yours” and his victory serves as evidence that it is never too late to start your own business.

His wife Janis explains: “The competition was definitely well worth entering. Provided you adopt the right attitude and are prepared to put in the effort, Make Your Mark in Retail may just make a real difference to your business and your life.”

Ken Williams, General Manager of The Mall Preston adds: “There really is no other competition of this sort available to budding retail entrepreneurs. With retail going through a phase of major change and unemployment at its highest for a generation, now is the perfect time to turn an idea into a career. The competition has been a great success over the past two years and is just getting better and better. All you need is that unique idea and the determination to build a dream, so we encourage the people of Preston to come down to The Mall Preston to enter – this year could just be Preston’s year."

City Posters - Brand New for Preston

CITYPOSTERS is a brand new concept of poster designs conceived by Andrew Kirkham and Chris Alldred who both come from an Architectural and design background.

CITYPOSTERS has focused initially upon the City of Preston which as very proud Prestonians was born out of a desire to record the city we love.

As frequenters of the city’s public houses, many of which are struggling and with some already closed,we have decided to commence our collection with a poster entitled,PUBS OF PRESTON,which as the poster states is a celebration of the many fine drinking establishments in the city.

The collection continues with the next poster in the series which again celebrates the city’s many and varied places of entertainment such as night clubs, some of the latest pubs, and wine bars.

A number of additional posters are at the design stage including one which will celebrate the city’s historical heritage and another which will look towards Preston’s future as the regions third city, its amazing new buildings and its 21st century rebirth.

In the future we hope to engage with publicans and offer competitions and prizes based upon the pub posters via the shoutpreston.com community website. This we feel will hopefully be of benefit in the promotion of all of the pubs and clubs featured.

Again looking to the future CITYPOSTERS intends to produce posters along similar lines for a number of other northern cities and towns.

The posters are available to buy on line at cityposters.co.uk and are priced at ÂŁ9.99 each or ÂŁ14.98 for any two posters plus postage.

CITYPOSTERS have pledged to donate 10% of their annual profit to a Preston based charity each year.  To purchase a poster - Click Here
