I asked the waiter for a signature dish and he rather succinctly said, ‘All our dishes are famous. You won’t be disappointed whatever you choose.’ And he wasn’t wrong. Stick a pin in the menu at EastZEast and you will almost certainly get something you like. With an extensive Punjabi menu and an impressive international wine list, a visit here is a culinary treat. Owned by the famous Raja Brothers of Bradford, the restaurant boasts a calm and sleek interior with minimalist furniture and ambient lighting. Its prices are mid-range but with regular and large options that won’t break the bank. For our starter my companion and I chose the EastZEast mixed starter (also available as a vegetarian option), featuring chicken and lamb boti, fish tikka and samosas on a sizzler platter. We followed it up with a raam lal handi, chicken, potatoes, and mushrooms in a ginger, garlic and onion sauce and karahi gosht, lamb with fresh onion and EastZEast spices. With chapattis and mushroom rice to accompany, it is a great wonder we managed the pudding. A wonder, but a relief. I had deliciously creamy ras malai and my partner the fruitiest, juiciest mango sorbet there has ever been. We washed ours down with sparkling water but it is worth trying the EastZEast special lassi or one of the specialist wines. When you’re greeted by a cheery waiter in Punjabi costume going in, and waved on your way by an equally polite and amiable member of staff as you leave, how can you fail to want to go back for more?
