The Mall Preston, formerly The Mall St George, or St George's Centre, is a shopping centre in the city centre of Preston, Lancashire, England. Ownership The present shopping centre is owned and managed by the The Mall Limited Partnership, part of the Capital and Regional group. The Mall acquired the shopping centre in 2004 from Legal and General. Centre information The shopping centre opened on 22 March, 1966 as St George's Shopping Centre. It was originally an open-air centre and was roofed over during refurbishment in 1981. It was further refurbished in 1999. The centre cover 270,000sq ft across two single level and one double level shopping areas. Two glass atriums are evident in the centre providing daylight and ventilation. There are two open Mall premium coffee cafes. Redevelopment When The Mall took over the centre, they acquired an ageing shopping centre. A £7 million development scheme was instigated in 2006 reconfiguring the Rotunda layout and replacing failing escalators, Lifts and floor finishes. Reconfiguration of shops, an extension of small stalls, cafes, restaurants, toilets. The introduction of television screens in the shopping centre has given information and news to the shoppers in the centre. The Mall has also introduced a customer service point in the centre, so that shoppers can ask members of staff directions and other information. Transport links The shopping centre is located between the two main streets of Fishergate and Friargate, and can be reached easily from several transport hubs, including Preston railway station and Preston bus station. The centre is linked with the Preston Park & Ride and Preston Bus services. The shopping centre runs its own multi-storey car park above the centre, which can be accessed from Lune Street.
