FWAP! is one of the most exciting and diverse dance music nights to hit the U.K in years.
FWAP! guarantees to set the standard for a very special 2010/2011.
FWAP! launches at 53 Degrees, Preston, on Friday 17th September.
FWAP! will open with a headline DJ set from Drum & Bass titans, Pendulum.
FWAP! is the new sound of clubbing in the North-West starting this September, regular parties bringing the world’s best acts together with the most exciting resident DJs to create the North-West’s newest, biggest and most diverse club-night. This exciting new event hits the ground running on Friday 17th September with a headline DJ set from the monolithic Pendulum, an October date will follow, and you can expect the line up for that to be announced very soon, then Friday 13th November brings cut & paste master DJ Yoda to the FWAP! Stage, and that’s just for starters!FWAP! LAUNCH PARTY – FRIDAY 17TH SEPTEMBERPendulum & MC Verse / T.C / D.O.D. / Bail / Scott3 / One-Way & Fareast / KamakazeSince their debut album ‘Hold Your Colour’ sold over 300,000 copies in 2005, spawning unstoppable hits ‘Slam’ and ‘Tarantula’ Pendulum have been a more than an exciting prospect, with a defining headline performance at Glastonbury’s Dance Stage being a particular highlight.
After fan favourite single ‘Granite’, it was the Radio 1 A-listed ‘Propane Nightmares’ that leapt Pendulum into the mainstream and 2nd album ‘In Silico’ debuted at No.2 in the UK album charts. As 2010 progresses, the Pendulum juggernaut continues to roll on, devastating all in its path. They’ve become one of the most visceral and exhilarating experiences around; “One of the most enthusiastic reactions afforded a main stage act in Big Day Out history,” observed Kerrang! “Phenomenal doesn’t even come close”. Not content to stop there FWAP! has also enlisted onto this opening night bill the mighty T.C. The guy responsible for (arguably) the most popular song in dubstep to date, ‘Where’s my money?!’.
"His beats are so advanced that they make rookie producers want to give up, his record sales continue to confound 'vinyl is dead' doomsayers, and with a live act that's touring the world - TC is just irresistible in drum & bass right now." K Mag, 2007
2009/2010 has undoubtedly been TC's year: verified by sales, awards, great press coverage and extensive club and radio support from dance music's elite. Each of the singles taken from his debut album 'EVOLUTION' topped both BBC Radio 1's national dance chart and BBC 1Xtra's drum&bass chart. These include 'Deep', 'Jump', 'Rockstar' and 'Where's My Money'. Largely due to unprecedented radio support from BBC Radio 1, XFM and KISS FM including Zane Lowe (the album was his record of the week) Annie Mac, Jo Whiley, Pete Tong, Mary Ann Hobbs, Grooverider, Eddy Temple Morris and DJ Hype.
"I want to make music that can be enjoyed by anyone. I make every style of drum and bass because you never know where you are going to be playing. You might turn up to the gig and there's 8000 people standing in front of you wanting you to smash it or maybe just 300 but you have to have the right tools in your box to get the job done and take them on a journey".
FWAP! will also be introducing an incredibly talented resident for this new clubbing institution...He goes by the name of D.O.D (AKA Dirty Dan). Recently signed to one of the country’s hottest new labels, ‘Gash Digital’, with his debut EP ‘No Smoke’ due for release at the end of September, 2010 is set to be a busy year for the rising star. Two of his tracks on the forthcoming EP are being supported and played by house legend, Laurent Garnier.
FWAP! – FRIDAY 13TH NOVEMBER – WITH DJ YODA (more tbc)“DJ Yoda was instrumental in creating the bootleg ‘cut-up’ mixing style. Whilst most other ‘superstar’ DJ’s were macho-postulating and demanding huge fees, Yoda was doing it for laughs... Nearly a decade later, in an era of playlist-skipping and remixes of bootlegs of bootlegs, he’s more relevant than ever.”
XYZ Magazine, February 2010
Duncan Beiny aka DJ Yoda is no ordinary scratch DJ. His seminal How To Cut & Paste series showcased a tongue-in-cheek mixing style that prompted Q Magazine to declare him “one of the ten DJs to see before you die”, whilst Hip Hop Connection voted him “one of the top three DJs in the world”.
From hip-hop beginnings, DJ Yoda has evolved in the past ten years, using his turntable skills and diverse influences as varied as Funk, B-more, Kuduro, Reggae, Drum ‘n’ Bass and even Big Band Swing and Country & Western to make unashamed party music. He can be found cutting the Indiana Jones theme with woofer-worrying Dubstep or The Muppet Theme with MIA. His shows are peppered with Film, TV and YouTube samples and visuals that lift his sets to new and stratospheric heights.
Trail-blazing into the world of the audio-visual he pioneered a new artform, using cutting edge technology that he has been instrumental in developing, to scratch and mix visuals on top of his DJ sets in the clubs. Starting out by re-scoring both ‘The Goonies’ and ‘Ferris Bueller’s Day Off’ on the festival circuit in 2003 and 2004, DJ Yoda went on to transform the average night out into a fusion of clubbing and the movies. His recent AV tours have included “DJ Yoda Goes To The Movies”, “Magic Cinema Show” and “National Video Vacation”.
DJ Yoda recently released the fourth and fifth instalments of the ‘How To Cut and Paste’ mix CD series, moving even further away from the hip-hop template into un-chartered musical territory. Blowing the barn doors off for a wild hayride into the heart of Country & Western, Vol. 4 was a truly surprising and groundbreaking edition, whilst ‘The ‘30’s Edition’ (Vol. 5) featured the kings of swing retooled with raw 21st Century beats. It scored a perfect 10 out of 10 in iDJ magazine, and has thrown the doors wide open for the series’ future.
For his debut album ‘The Amazing Adventures Of DJ Yoda’, released to critical acclaim in 2006, he produced tracks with Biz Markie, 2005 MOBO-winner Sway, Princess Superstar, Jungle Brothers, MC Paul Barman, and a host of other vocalists. He has also made music for Film, TV and Advertising and is currently finishing a new artist album. Tickets for FWAP!
